The Master of Social Work degree holds full accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the exclusive accrediting body for social work programs nationwide. Completing a CSWE-accredited program is mandatory for obtaining social work licensure in Michigan.
Aligned with both the University's mission and the Council on Social Work Education's EPAS standards (2022), SVSU's Social Work department aims to enhance social welfare across the Great Lakes Bay Region, Michigan, and broader communities. We deliver comprehensive generalist training in evidence-based practices while expanding understanding of societal challenges. Our program cultivates ethically grounded, skilled professionals with cultural competence, ready to deliver interprofessional services that uphold human rights and advocate for social, economic, and environmental justice for marginalized populations across urban, suburban, and rural settings. Program alumni emerge equipped to lead both direct service and systemic initiatives that strengthen individuals, families, groups, and communities.
