The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program offering a dual focus in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is an advanced, interdisciplinary curriculum that trains nurses for dual certification. This program provides graduates with the skills to deliver comprehensive, integrated care throughout patients' lives, encompassing both psychological well-being and general health services.
Students who complete the DNP with dual PMHNP/FNP specialization gain the qualifications to assume leadership positions, driving improvements in mental healthcare systems, policy development, and evidence-based clinical approaches.
Saginaw Valley State University's DNP curriculum requires at least 91 credit hours for BSN-to-DNP candidates pursuing the dual FNP/PMHNP track. Participants must fulfill a minimum of 1,000 post-baccalaureate clinical/practice hours, including 750 direct patient care hours, to graduate. The entire DNP program must be completed within seven years from the initial enrolled course at SVSU.
