Immerse yourself in the craft. Acting students gain performance experience through main stage and black box productions while interning at Chicago's top theaters like Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre, and Goodman Theatre. The program offers rigorous training across multiple disciplines: Stanislavski-based methods, viewpoints, historical styles, on-camera work, circus arts, stage combat, and Linklater voice/body techniques. Dance and vocal training are integral parts of the curriculum. This BFA program builds professional readiness for stage, film, and television careers through comprehensive technique training. The curriculum blends Stanislavski's system with approaches from Michael Chekhov, Uta Hagen, Sanford Meisner, Anne Bogart, and Tina Landau (Viewpoints). Voice/ Speech courses develop vocal skills while movement classes enhance physical expression. Advanced training covers Shakespearean text, on-camera acting, historical styles, circus arts, combat, and voiceover work. Students continue dance training and receive private voice lessons. Beyond Conservatory productions, students engage with Chicago's premier theater companies. Our social justice focus - from exploring identity formation in first year to defining artistic purpose in senior year - cultivates innovative, socially conscious performers.
