Students pursuing the Associate in Occupational Studies (AOS) degree in Precision Manufacturing Technology gain the skills needed for careers in precision machining and/or precision optics manufacturing. These career paths encompass tool and die making, mold making, instrument making, optical element production, and computer numerical control (CNC) machining. Graduates find successful employment in both large manufacturing firms and smaller contract manufacturing facilities. This program is accessible to qualified deaf and hard of hearing students.
The Precision Manufacturing Technology program, provided by RIT's National Technical Institute for the Deaf, equips you for direct entry into the workforce after completing your studies. Graduates' job duties may involve: setting up and operating lathes, milling machines, grinders, polishers, CNC machine tools, and computer-aided manufacturing systems (such as 5-axis machines); shaping materials into precision components using both conventional and unconventional methods; interpreting blueprints; and employing advanced measurement techniques for quality inspection.
Applicants must Submit an official high school transcript.
Minimum Score for Admission Consideration: Internet Based TOEFL (iBT) - 79; PTE Academic - 58, IELTS - 6.5
