Professionals in architectural and civil drafting technology utilize their expertise to develop computer-generated 2D and 3D designs. These visual representations depict structures like buildings, bridges, waterways, and residential properties. This educational opportunity is accessible to eligible deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.

RIT's National Technical Institute for the Deaf offers an Associate in Occupational Studies (AOS) in Architectural and Civil Drafting Technology, equipping students for fulfilling careers as CAD specialists. The curriculum develops competencies for supporting roles in architecture, engineering, and construction sectors. Graduates may collaborate with architects or engineers on infrastructure projects including structures, roadways, or overpasses. CAD professionals are also sought after by construction firms and building material suppliers.

CAD specialists, alternatively called CAD technicians, transform conceptual sketches from engineers, architects, or designers into precise technical drawings. Beyond intensive computer-aided design training, the program covers essential knowledge in mathematics, structural systems, building codes, site infrastructure, and construction materials and techniques.

Alumni enter organizations requiring technically skilled personnel with CAD proficiency and comprehensive understanding of industry applications. Career opportunities span engineering consultancies, public sector organizations, and architectural/construction companies. Qualified positions include drafting specialists for architectural, transportation, and civil engineering projects.

The AOS degree in architectural and civil drafting technology enables graduates to secure employment immediately after completing the program.
