Professionals in architectural and civil drafting technology utilize their expertise to generate computer-based 2D and 3D designs. These visual representations depict structures like buildings, bridges, waterways, and residential properties. This educational opportunity is accessible to eligible deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. RIT's National Technical Institute for the Deaf provides an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in architectural and civil drafting technology, equipping students for fulfilling careers as CAD specialists. The curriculum develops competencies for technical support roles within architecture, engineering, and construction sectors. Graduates may collaborate with architects or engineers on various infrastructure projects, including structures, roadways, or overpasses. CAD professionals, alternatively referred to as CAD technicians, transform conceptual sketches from engineers, architects, or designers into precise technical diagrams. Beyond comprehensive training in computer-aided design, the program incorporates foundational knowledge in mathematics, structural systems, building codes, site infrastructure, and construction materials and techniques relevant to architectural, engineering, and construction fields.
