Official Transcripts: Sent to the address below, one transcript from each college or university attended. Photocopies are not acceptable. Official electronic copies may be sent from your institution to
[email protected]. **Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, electronic copies are preferred.
Recommendations: Three letters of recommendation from people who are familiar with your scholastic and personal qualities. The online application will allow you to enter recommender information, and your recommenders will be emailed a URL for completing an online recommendation.
CV or Resume: An up-to-date CV or resume is required to apply.
Statement of Purpose: A 1-2 page essay that details your educational and research background. Please also include your career goals and why you would be a good fit for our program.
Writing Sample: Submit a writing sample from your past work, ideally on a topic relevant to human-computer interaction and/or human factors (e.g., class paper, honors thesis, conference submission, or journal article where you were the lone or primary author).
Optional GRE: The General GRE taken within the last 5 years is now optional for all applicants.. In general, applicants should have at least a 3.0(B) grade point average (or the equivalent) in their undergraduate work. Some departments at Rice University require scores on the aptitude portion of the GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or the GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test) as an appropriate advanced test, these should be sent directly to the admitting department. Applicants whose native language is not English must take the TOEFL test and should score at least 90 on the iBT (internet-based) TOEFL, at least 600 on the paper-based TOEFL or score 250 on the computer-based TOEFL. For students who choose to take the IELTS in lieu of TOEFL, the minimum score is 7. must complete the requirements for a bachelor's degree.
