Doctoral candidates are deeply committed to advancing knowledge through research. They employ intelligence, innovation, and courage to push boundaries and make discoveries. Their goal is to transform questions and analysis into comprehension, then apply that understanding to develop groundbreaking solutions for practical challenges. The CEE Ph.D. program offers two specializations: (1) Civil Engineering (CE) and (2) Environmental Engineering and Sciences (EES). For both tracks, degree requirements include: Earning 90 approved credit hours beyond a bachelor's degree (60 beyond a master's) with strong academic performance, including mandatory core courses. Successfully completing a preliminary written exam. Passing a comprehensive qualifying exam covering coursework, research proposals, and related subjects. Producing an original dissertation demonstrating scholarly research capabilities. Defending the thesis through a formal public oral examination.
