After earning their MA and PhD in English, graduates will possess the ability to: Utilize sophisticated understanding of literary, cultural, and critical studies, encompassing: analytical reading, reasoning, and composition, professional research methods, historical contexts of literature and culture, as well as theoretical and cross-disciplinary viewpoints. Exhibit comprehensive expertise in specialized areas for both academic research and instruction. Show proficiency in teaching literature and cultural studies at the collegiate level. Display professional competence in verbal and public communication by engaging in academic forums, research groups, conferences, and classroom presentations. Develop the capability to produce scholarly work of professional quality that offers novel insights into academic discourse and is suitable for publication.

Qualification Requirements
Candidates who hold a Bachelor's degree, or who will complete a Bachelor's degree by the start of the admission term, are eligible to apply. Many but by no means all of our applicants also have a Master's degree in English or a related field. Please note that program requirements are identical for those entering with Bachelor's and Master's degrees.
Applicants with previous degrees in majors other than English literature are eligible to apply, although a substantial background in literary/cultural study is recommended.
In general, applicants should have a 3.0 (B) grade point average, or the equivalent, in their undergraduate work.

Applicants will be asked to submit a plan of study, three (3) letters of recommendation, a writing sample (no more than 25 pages), and transcripts from each college attended. The GRE is not required. The TOEFL IBT Home. A minimum score of 90 is required.
IELTS Indicator. A minimum score of 7 is required. TOEFL, at least 600 on the paper-based TOEFL or score 250 on the computer-based TOEFL.
