The Department of Drama, Theatre & Dance provides educational programs perfectly suited for a liberal arts education. Blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, the curriculum fosters a deep appreciation for dramatic, theatrical, and dance arts, preparing students for advanced graduate studies. The department actively nurtures individual abilities and talents, serving as an ideal starting point for students aspiring to professional conservatory training in stage performance or dance.
Academic offerings include comprehensive programs in theatre (encompassing historical studies, dramatic literature, performance techniques, direction, production management, scenic design, and technical theatre) and dance (featuring modern, ballet, tap, Asian and African styles, composition, and historical perspectives). Annually, the department stages five diverse productions across three performance spaces, presenting everything from classical and contemporary plays to original works, musicals, operas, and dance performances. Students work alongside faculty and visiting professionals, showcasing their talents to both campus audiences and the wider Queens community.
