The Africana Studies Program provides an organized curriculum for students pursuing either a major or minor in Africana Studies. This program aims to deliver comprehensive understanding of African civilizations, historical developments, literary works, cultural traditions, and societal structures, along with the experiences of African diaspora communities in the Caribbean and North America. The curriculum includes foundational courses in Africana Studies along with specialized tracks focusing on: Africa, the Caribbean, and the African-American experience.
This program particularly appeals to students with cultural or career-related interests in African, African-Caribbean, or African-American contexts. It also attracts those seeking cross-cultural understanding beyond their own heritage. The program prepares students for advanced studies in African, Caribbean, or African-American disciplines and opens career paths in education, community development, social services, business, media, and global affairs. With its interdisciplinary approach, Africana Studies serves as an ideal secondary major or minor complement to other fields of study.
