Purdue University Northwest's bachelor's program in history with a social studies teaching focus equips you for secondary education careers in middle and high schools through collaboration with the School of Education and Counseling. Our alumni have distinguished themselves as exceptional, honored educators, positively impacting students across Indiana and other regions.
As a social studies education student, you'll complete a mix of general education requirements, core classes from the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, and specialized history coursework.
The program's design allows you to instruct history along with two additional subjects from these options: government/civics, economics, geography, sociology, or psychology. Each academic year builds your subject expertise, research capabilities, writing proficiency, and communication abilities. You'll also master dynamic instructional techniques from PNW's distinguished faculty.
This degree helps you:

Gain practical teaching experience through mentorship from Education and Counseling faculty.
Complete a program fully certified by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
Applicants must have official high school transcript(s) or GED test score report.
