Purdue's Industrial and Organizational (I-O) psychology program stands as one of the world's most established, awarding its inaugural degree in 1939. This distinguished program has produced more PhD graduates and SIOP Fellows than any comparable I-O program worldwide, consistently ranking among the nation's elite (Gourman report, TIP report). Designed primarily as a Ph.D. program, the curriculum emphasizes rigorous research training. Students actively collaborate with faculty on research initiatives before developing their own independent projects. Nearly all graduate students gain valuable teaching experience during their studies. While most candidates begin the Ph.D. program with bachelor's degrees, some enter with master's qualifications. Each graduate student works closely with a primary I-O faculty advisor. The program follows a science-practice approach, preparing students for both academic research and practical organizational applications in human resources. Faculty members pursue diverse research interests, particularly focusing on workplace psychology and employee experiences.
