The Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology (MCMP) ranks among the nation's premier programs, distinguished by its dual focus on medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology. Our PhD candidates receive interdisciplinary training blending chemical and biological methodologies, crucial for transforming fundamental research into innovative treatments. Students and our 25+ faculty members employ diverse scientific approaches spanning medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, cellular and molecular biology, molecular pharmacology, biophysical and computational chemistry, systems biology, and functional pharmacogenomics. MCMP's biomedical research primarily focuses on three key domains: cancer biology, neuroscience, and infectious disease studies.
