The Department of Industrial & Physical Pharmacy at Purdue University offers advanced academic programs and research initiatives for graduate students pursuing careers in pharmaceutical sciences.
Pharmaceutics now integrates the classic fields of industrial pharmacy, pharmacokinetics/biopharmaceutics, and physical pharmacy. This interdisciplinary approach, combined with research bridging biological and physical chemical sciences, creates an exceptional academic setting for graduate research.
Our department has awarded PhD degrees to students from diverse undergraduate backgrounds including pharmacy, biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, and biological sciences. This variety of academic and cultural perspectives fosters both intellectual development and personal growth. We welcome you to become part of our community dedicated to academic excellence.
As one of three departments in the College of Pharmacy, we typically have 30-40 PhD candidates, complemented by postdoctoral researchers and visiting scholars who enhance our academic environment.
New graduate students choose their faculty advisor during their first semester, then collaborate to design a customized curriculum. These individualized programs typically incorporate coursework in physical, organic, and analytical chemistry, along with mathematics, statistics, biochemistry, and chemical engineering, all tailored to meet each student's professional goals.
