Purdue's Environmental and Ecological Engineering (EEE) program pioneers a contemporary take on environmental engineering. Instead of focusing solely on traditional waste treatment methods, we encourage students to adopt a holistic viewpoint that incorporates both environmental and ecological considerations. The distinctive program name - Environmental and Ecological Engineering - was intentionally selected to emphasize its special characteristics and methodologies that set it apart from comparable programs at other universities. Our approach emphasizes comprehensive systems thinking for tackling environmental challenges, prioritizing ecological relationships and robust designs that account for intricate system interdependencies. This foundational principle shapes the undergraduate program's early emphasis on systems analysis and comprehension. It also informs our curriculum's substantial coursework in ecology, sustainability, and industrial ecology. Graduates emerge ready to pursue diverse career paths across environmental and engineering sectors, including industry, nonprofit organizations, regulatory agencies, and municipal government.
