If you're considering a career working with young children, including those with special needs, or leading educational childcare programs, the early childhood education and exceptional needs major could be your ideal path.
ECEEN students gain expertise in supporting both typically developing children and those with exceptional needs, along with their families. This program equips graduates to work with children from infancy through third grade.
The curriculum prepares students to pursue dual Indiana Teaching licensure as Early Childhood Generalists and Early Childhood Exceptional Needs specialists (birth to grade 3). Graduates emerge ready for careers in early intervention programs, pre-K school settings, community programs, and both regular and special education classrooms across public and private institutions serving children through third grade.
Hands-on training occurs at the Ben and Maxine Miller Child Development Laboratory School, various community schools, and other early childhood programs, culminating in a semester-long student teaching placement at a child development center or public/private school.
