Qualification Requirements

The two-year, 60-credit MFA program in Fashion Collection + Communication invites creatives in the field to study in collaboration with expert faculty in a state-of-the-art studio environment, where we will generate new ideas, perspectives, and possibilities for a better future in fashion practice. Applicants for admission to the MFA degree program in Fashion Collection + Communication must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college, university or art/design school or the equivalent degree from a recognized international institution. It is not required that applicants have majored in Fashion as undergraduates, only that they demonstrate their readiness for the challenges of MFA studies. Fashion MFA Admissions: We seek applicants from a diverse range of fashion and related practices, including, but not limited to, designers, curators, performance artists, theorists, and educators. We do not require an undergraduate degree in Fashion Design We do not require the GRE A TOEFL of 88 (internet and home test), TOEFL ITP Plus for China of 570, IELTS of 7.0, Cambridge English score of 185, or PTE of 59 is required for international students. Departmental Requirements: Resume or CV Portfolio or visual-based assembly of work (up to 10 examples). The Graduate Admissions Committee is looking for work that best represents an applicant’s skills and knowledge related to their background, experience, and interests, as well as the potential for successful growth over the two years of the program. The portfolio should include samples of work that demonstrate the applicant’s ability to express themselves visually in any medium they feel represents their creative production. If an applicant does not have a visual portfolio, we welcome other examples that speak to the work – including evidence of fieldwork, research work, writing samples, and selected texts. The department prefers multi-page PDF files for the portfolio or supporting documentation. The portfolio should include work made in the last 2-3 years and information for each work/image, including the work’s title, dimensions, materials used, and date of completion, or other descriptive information. All portfolio materials should be uploaded to pratt.slideroom.com The statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) must include how the applicant’s background can inform and has prepared them for graduate study in Fashion. The statement should also include a brief description of their goals and aspirations for the program and after graduation. The applicant is welcome to include anything else that they would like the admissions committee to know about them.
