Tackle intricate societal challenges, innovate with fresh concepts and mediums, and influence how art and design contribute to societal progress, working alongside schools, communities, and cultural institutions.
The combined BFA/MA in Art and Design Education, which includes initial New York State teacher certification (visual arts, all grade levels), offers an exceptional pathway for students to earn both undergraduate and graduate degrees at Pratt within five years, minimizing both time and financial investment. Students begin with the BFA curriculum: all first-year participants complete the Foundation program's core classes alongside mandatory art history and liberal arts coursework, initiating the art and design education
program in their sophomore fall semester. During the BFA phase of this five-year dual-degree program, students can choose between two specialized tracks: one focused on art and design education with New York State certification, and another centered on community-based art and design education. After successfully finishing the BFA requirements, students transition into the MA component (starting exclusively in fall semesters). This distinctive graduate year enables participants to delve into
diverse areas connected to art and design education, including museum studies or community-focused art and design initiatives, while also conducting independent research projects.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for admission to all of Pratt Institute's undergraduate programs.
A minimum TOEFL 79 (Internet-based test or Home Edition); TOEFL ITP Plus, a 550 is required. The required IELTS or IELTS Indicator score is 6.5 and PTE is 53.
