Discover a wide range of media, methods, and concepts that represent modern sculpture and interdisciplinary approaches within an engaging educational setting. Through foundational studio classes and electives, you'll examine various artistic perspectives, materials, and creative processes. First-year students complete the core Foundation program alongside essential art history and liberal arts courses, starting their fine arts specialization in the second year. As sophomores, while fulfilling art history and general education requirements, students delve deeper into their chosen focus—be it painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and interdisciplinary practices, or jewelry. Alongside studio work, all fine arts majors participate in departmental seminars exploring social, historical, and critical aspects of modern art. Students can use elective credits to explore additional courses, pursue a minor, or gain internship experience. The final year centers on creating an independent body of work for the senior thesis exhibition, supported by professional practice courses that guide portfolio development and post-graduation career strategies, including engagement with funders, galleries, residencies, and employers.
Students will: Master fundamental 3D design principles and apply them to artistic goals, Develop advanced drawing skills to support sculptural work, Learn material properties and constraints, Acquire technical proficiency with tools and processes to realize concepts into finished pieces, Gain insight into historical and contemporary sculpture trends, Cultivate a distinctive artistic voice in chosen sculptural media, Demonstrate capability to produce a unified collection and professionally present it in a public exhibition.
