Pratt approaches communications design as a harmonious blend of conceptualization and execution. Our program combines analytical cultural study with cutting-edge technologies, empowering students to develop their unique creative methodology. These interdisciplinary Communications Design classes foster a collaborative studio environment emphasizing idea exchange, constructive feedback, visual intelligence, media proficiency, hands-on experience, and boundary-pushing results. Students investigate significant visual expressions through investigation, historical/modern frameworks, creative exploration, target audiences, technological applications, and experimental approaches. The Illustration concentration features specialized studios focusing on narrative development, social-political discourse, and personal voice. Optional courses cover graphic fiction, digital animation, self-publishing, set design, and character creation.
