PSU offers three distinct pathways for students pursuing a Master of Science Degree with a Major in Biology (detailed options appear below). Most students complete their master's program within two years. Each candidate's curriculum is customized through collaboration between the student, their faculty advisor, and a graduate committee, aligning with faculty research specialties. The Biology Department awards a limited quantity of graduate teaching assistantships annually, which include modest financial support and practical instructional opportunities. These positions typically involve assisting with undergraduate lab courses. Accepted graduate students automatically receive assistantship application materials as part of their admission package.
Students must have completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with at least 25 hours of acceptable undergraduate courses in biology. These should include fundamental courses in botany, ecology, zoology, genetics, microbiology, and physiology.
