The Language Arts coursework focuses on both the structure and substance of verbal and written communication. Learners will develop skills to analyze communication within broader societal frameworks, applying linguistic and rhetorical concepts to foster coherent thinking, articulate expression, and analytical assessment. To earn an Associate of Arts Degree in Language Arts, candidates must fulfill the General Education curriculum plus 42 additional elective units. This includes 18 units of core emphasis courses (minimum grade of C), 19 units of general education, and 23 elective units totaling 60 units. Since this degree might not fully prepare students for university transfer, those planning to attend UC or CSU institutions should consult an advisor to create a transfer strategy meeting all general education and lower-division requirements.
