The Theatre Program at Seaver College offers intensive performing arts training within a liberal arts framework. Students benefit from top-tier stage productions and regular master classes led by visiting professionals, gaining direct exposure to the world of theatre careers.
Theatre arts majors develop both creative and analytical skills for careers in acting, directing, film, musical theatre, and production design through practical, industry-focused training. They contribute to Seaver College's vibrant arts culture by performing in cutting-edge campus productions.
Our foundational curriculum operates on the principle that theatre students must first become well-rounded artists with deep appreciation for the craft. Required courses in design, dramaturgy, technical theatre, history, and arts activism establish essential knowledge that serves graduates whether they pursue theatre careers or transition to related entertainment fields like film and television. Pepperdine's robust theatre core develops perseverance in students, equipping them to become adaptable, multifaceted theatre professionals.
Production design students master all technical aspects of theatre including lighting, sets, audio, costumes, makeup, properties, digital media, and stage management. Starting their first year, they apply classroom learning through hands-on work on major productions. Before graduating, each design student completes a capstone project aligned with their professional aspirations. To ensure career readiness, they engage with working professionals about portfolio development, emerging technologies, and diverse career opportunities in the industry.
