The Theatre Program at Seaver College offers intensive performing arts training within a liberal arts framework. Students gain professional-level experience through high-quality stage productions and master classes led by visiting artists, immersing them in the world of theatre.
Theatre arts majors develop both creative and analytical skills for careers in acting, directing, film, musical theatre, and design. They contribute to Seaver College's cultural life by performing in cutting-edge campus venues while acquiring practical industry knowledge.
Our foundational curriculum operates on the principle that all theatre students - whether aspiring performers, designers, or directors - first need comprehensive artistic training. Required courses in design, dramaturgy, technical theatre, history, and arts activism establish essential knowledge that serves graduates whether they pursue theatre careers or transition to related entertainment fields. Pepperdine's robust theatre core develops perseverance and versatility, creating adaptable theatre practitioners.
Acting majors undergo rigorous training in performance techniques, vocal work, physicality, and script analysis. The progressive curriculum builds from fundamental skills like presence and improvisation to advanced classical text work. Using the Linklater Voice method, students overcome physical and vocal limitations to achieve authentic expression. We instill professional habits including thorough script analysis, consistent independent rehearsal, proper vocal/physical preparation, and collaborative conduct. Majors network with industry professionals and complete their studies with an LA-based masterclass series featuring working artists.
