The CEE Department provides six advanced degree options: Master of Engineering (M.Eng.), Master of Science (M.S.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Civil or Environmental
Engineering. For Civil Engineering, graduate students focusing on research can concentrate in one of four specializations: Geotechnical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering and Mechanics,
Transportation Engineering, or Water Resources Engineering. Cross-disciplinary programs are also available, especially for doctoral candidates. All graduate programs mandate that students
fulfill specific criteria set by both Penn State's Graduate School and the CEE Department.
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department aims to equip students for professional careers, advanced studies, continuous education, community leadership, and to enhance the
scientific and technical foundations of civil and environmental engineering. To achieve this goal, the Department strives to deliver an exceptional undergraduate curriculum covering all core
aspects of civil engineering, maintain an outstanding research and graduate program in selected civil and environmental engineering fields, and share cutting-edge technical knowledge with
engineers, professionals, and the general public.
