The Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) is a professional degree featuring a cohesive, well-structured curriculum aimed at advancing professional expertise. Candidates must fulfill 31 graduate-level credits (with at least 18 at the 500-level) and meet additional academic requirements specified in the Graduate Handbook. Full-time students may finish in two semesters, while part-time students require more time.
Penn State's SARI initiative provides graduate students with thorough, multi-tiered education in responsible research practices. This three-component program includes: a mandatory first-year online course, a three-hour colloquium (CE 590), and two hours of Office of Research Protection seminar attendance.
Candidates should possess a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution. Students in engineering, physical sciences, or mathematics with a 3.00 grade-point average (on a 4.00 scale) may be considered for admission. Exceptions to the minimum 3.00 grade-point average may be made for students with special backgrounds, abilities, and interests.
English Proficiency: TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the internet-based test (iBT); TOEFL Paper-based test - the minimum acceptable score is 550; IELTS - The minimum acceptable composite score for the IELTS Academic Test is 6.5.
