The Ph.D. program is a full-time, on-campus offering at University Park. Typically, Ph.D. alumni pursue careers as professors or assume leadership roles in academic institutions, research facilities, and corporate settings. This advanced research degree requires 2-3 years of graduate-level coursework followed by the development, execution, and presentation of a dissertation. As an LDT doctoral candidate, you'll investigate, evaluate, and implement theoretical frameworks concerning learning, technology, and design to cultivate your specialized research focus. The program demands comprehensive knowledge of foundational concepts, theories, and methodologies spanning the diverse research domains within learning, design, and technology. You'll acquire skills in designing research studies, gathering data, and applying qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-method analyses to expand theoretical understanding and contribute new knowledge to the discipline.
The LDT curriculum emphasizes the ethical, theory-driven creation and investigation of technologically enhanced learning environments that address:
Social equity, racial justice, and environmental sustainability
Fair and accessible teaching methods across K-12 and higher education
Passion-based learning approaches in non-formal and everyday contexts
Development of systems, policies, and programs that ensure universal access to quality education
Innovation and examination of cutting-edge educational technologies across various learning spaces
The Learning, Design, and Technology Program actively upholds the principles and objectives outlined in the College of Education's Strategic Plan, applying these commitments specifically to the interdisciplinary realm of LDT.
