The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Kinesiology equips graduates for academic roles in universities or research positions in various industries. Our doctoral candidates explore core kinesiology concepts while mastering diverse research methodologies. Compared to the M.S. program, Ph.D. students achieve substantially deeper expertise in their specialization. Each candidate must complete a dissertation featuring original research that often results in multiple publications across six interdisciplinary fields: Athletic Training and Sports Medicine, Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, History and Philosophy of Sport, Motor Control, and Psychology of Physical Activity.
Doctoral applicants are expected to meet more stringent admission standards, including documented research capabilities (e.g., from an M.S. degree). Experience is highly desirable. Admission is highly competitive and the best-qualified students will be admitted subject to space availability and compatibility of the student with the department's research mission.
