The Engineering Science and Mechanics Ph.D. program at Penn State is a research-focused, thesis-driven degree designed for those pursuing careers in academia, research leadership, or advanced development. Applicants who hold a baccalaureate degree in engineering, the sciences, mathematics, engineering science, and materials who present at least a 3.00 grade-point average will be considered for admission. Exceptions to the minimum 3.00 grade-point average may be made for students with special backgrounds, abilities, and interests at the discretion of the program.
English Proficiency: TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the internet-based test (iBT); TOEFL Paper-based test - the minimum acceptable score is 550; IELTS - The minimum acceptable composite score for the IELTS Academic Test is 6.5.
