The CACREP-accredited (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) Ph.D. program equips students for careers as counselor educators, clinical supervisors, and advanced practitioners across academic and clinical environments. This program aims to: broaden the counseling profession's knowledge foundation through scholarly investigation develop students' ability to contribute original research leading to professional publications cultivate graduates as change agents and leaders in the field The program highlights faculty engagement in key areas such as: instructional excellence, scholarly research, and professional service leadership roles within national counseling associations editorial positions in academic journals.
Doctoral applicants must have completed a master's degree in counselor education prior to admission into the Ph.D. program. A master's degree is required for admission that must be comprised of a minimum of 48 credit hours that align with the standards of the Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). All doctoral applicants should present at least a 3.33 average in all graduate study completed prior to admission.
English Proficiency: TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the internet-based test (iBT); TOEFL Paper-based test - the minimum acceptable score is 550; IELTS - The minimum acceptable composite score for the IELTS Academic Test is 6.5.
