The student's Master of Science curriculum must be structured to achieve expertise in the major discipline that substantially exceeds typical undergraduate training, while incorporating foundational and supplementary knowledge expected for professional practice in that field. To maintain rigorous standards, the major must include a minimum of 15 credit hours from 500-level, non-blanket CCE courses. (Note: Blanket courses refer to those numbered 501, 505, 506, and 507.)
Thesis and Non-Thesis Paths: Certain CCE programs offer the flexibility to pursue either a thesis or non-thesis track, contingent upon approval from the student's primary advisor. Students opting out of the thesis must complete a technical report instead. The thesis pathway typically requires 6 to 12 credits of CE 503 (Thesis), while the non-thesis alternative generally involves 3 to 6 credits of CE 506 (Project), concluding with a technical report.
