The Department of Integrative Biology provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, covering biological disciplines from molecular to ecosystem scales.
Investigations take place in campus labs, at Oregon's Malheur Field Station, Newport's Hatfield Marine Science Center, the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest, and throughout Cascade Mountain and Willamette Valley ecosystems. Collaborative opportunities exist with other university departments, Portland's Oregon Health and Science University, and Beaverton's Primate Research Center.
All graduate students engage in departmental seminars, with doctoral candidates completing at least one year of teaching assistantships. Financial support primarily comes through teaching or research assistantships. Candidates must demonstrate comprehensive biological knowledge. The master's program requires either a thesis or research report (non-thesis path), while the Ph.D. focuses on original dissertation research advancing knowledge in the student's specialization.
