The Industrial and Organizational (IO) Psychology specialization within ODU's Psychology Ph.D. program adopts the scientist-practitioner approach, blending psychological principles with behavioral science. Faculty in the IO Psychology doctoral program possess deep knowledge in areas like leadership dynamics, organizational culture, employee retention, workplace attitudes, personality traits (including the Big Five), HR development, work-life balance, occupational safety, and diversity in the workplace. These scholars are highly skilled in research methodology and statistical analysis, with projects supported by prominent organizations such as HRSA, NASA, NSF, NIOSH, and the Department of Defense. We foster an environment where students can develop groundbreaking professional work in the discipline. While we maintain rigorous academic standards, our faculty are dedicated to supporting student achievement. The program cultivates a collaborative, supportive atmosphere where learners actively participate in their educational journey.
