The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) certification was established in 1956. As one of four advanced nursing specialties acknowledged in the United States, CRNAs work with significant independence and professional esteem. They shoulder substantial responsibilities and receive matching compensation. Old Dominion University's Doctor of Nursing Practice program focusing on nurse anesthesia spans 100 credits over 36 months of full-time study, commencing every May. This hybrid program combines in-person and online learning. The coursework integrates specialized nurse anesthesia training with DNP requirements. All students must undertake a capstone project focused on enhancing patient care, quality improvement, workflow optimization, or clinical practice advancement.
