The College provides an interdisciplinary Doctor of Engineering (D.Eng.) program designed to equip the Commonwealth and nation with highly skilled engineering professionals. Graduates will possess exceptional abilities to deliver creative solutions in specialized engineering fields, meeting the top qualifications for leadership roles in both industry and government sectors. The department maintains close collaborations with the internationally acclaimed Center for Bioelectrics, where ECE faculty pioneer groundbreaking applications of pulsed electric fields for cancer treatment. Research facilities within the ECE department specialize in diverse areas including Applied Plasma Technology, Cybersecurity, Communications and Networking Innovation, Microelectronics and Thin Film Devices, Medical Imaging and Diagnostics, Power Systems Research, Metabolic Physiology Analysis, Systems Engineering, the Virginia Institute for Photovoltaics, and Computer Vision Laboratories.
