Students who graduate with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education will qualify for recommendation to obtain the necessary certification to teach music in public school systems. The program offers specializations in either vocal or instrumental instruction for students from preschool through 12th grade. Those who successfully finish the accredited teacher training curriculum (including the Teacher Candidate Internship component) can apply for a teaching license through the Virginia Department of Education, with reciprocity accepted across 47 states. Old Dominion University's Music Education bachelor's program delivers thorough training for aspiring music teachers. Through various observational opportunities, practical training sessions, and internship placements, participants enhance their teaching skills while developing the strong instructional, performance, and ensemble competencies emphasized in the coursework.
