The ODU Bachelor of Music in Composition program emphasizes cultivating composition techniques, analytical abilities, and digital proficiency through an in-depth exploration of music theory across historical periods and diverse cultures. Students engage with a rigorous curriculum covering composition, theory, and music history. During their final semester of composition studies, they must present a 30-minute lecture-recital featuring original works. The program provides access to multiple ensembles and soloists for student composer performances, with a requirement to publicly present at least one original composition each semester beginning in the third term of composition instruction.
