The African American and African Studies (AAST) program provides both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree options. This curriculum equips students with fundamental knowledge and analytical capabilities, while allowing specialization in either African American Studies or African Studies. Students explore the interdisciplinary examination of African diaspora communities, particularly in the United States. This multidisciplinary framework addresses the constraints of studying populations through a singular academic lens. The program cultivates critical reasoning abilities, shaping versatile graduates ready for diverse careers or advanced studies in fields like law, medicine, or social work. Graduates emerge with specialized understanding of historical and modern racial dynamics that influence national and global contexts. Degree recipients gain comprehensive liberal arts training, exceptional communication abilities (both written and verbal), and analytical competencies that position them for postgraduate education and valuable contributions across various professional sectors.
