The fire protection and safety engineering technology (FPSET) curriculum prepares students to evaluate and minimize potential losses related to fire emergencies, safety issues, industrial hygiene concerns, and hazardous material events. Oklahoma State University launched the FPSET program in 1937. The need for loss control professionals has driven the program's development into one that focuses on fire protection, safety, and occupational/environmental health. Graduates are equipped for careers in loss control, which covers three primary categories: fire-related losses, physical accidents, and environmental exposure.
Key Features
OSU hosts the country's first ABET-accredited FPSET program and remains one of the few accredited bachelor's degree programs of its kind in the United States.
The Chairman of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities described the OSU FPSET program as a "national treasure with work of significant national importance," noting that its graduates protect art, history, and the public.
Graduates of the FPSET program are highly sought by diverse industries aiming to decrease fire and safety-related losses. The program's comprehensive training offers students numerous career options and adaptability.
