The Department of Statistics provides multiple graduate degree options, such as MS and PhD programs in Statistics along with a Master of Applied Statistics (MAS). In collaboration with the College of Public Health's Division of Biostatistics, it oversees a distinctive Interdisciplinary PhD Program in Biostatistics. The department strives to advance statistical science across diverse domains, from pioneering theoretical frameworks to innovative methodologies. Key strengths encompass Bayesian analysis, spatio-temporal modeling, statistical learning, and biostatistics, with research focused on contemporary and emerging fields. Many faculty and students engage in cross-disciplinary projects that yield substantial scientific impact beyond traditional statistics. Faculty consistently obtain prestigious grants from organizations like the National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institutes of Health (NIH). The department also co-manages the NSF-supported Mathematical Biosciences Institute at Ohio State. The MS in Statistics serves as both a final degree or pathway to PhD studies, usually requiring two years with either a thesis or comprehensive exam. The master's curriculum offers versatility, preparing students for applied statistics careers or providing foundational coursework for statistics/biostatistics PhD tracks. Admission to the MS program does not ensure acceptance into PhD programs.
