The Master of Science (MS) in Environmental Sciences is designed for students with academic interests in environmental public health rather than professional practice. Graduates of this program gain the expertise to engage in both fundamental and practical research, equipping them for careers focused on scientific inquiry. This degree is offered through Ohio State's Environmental Sciences Graduate
Program (ESGP) and serves as an ideal pathway for students aiming to pursue a PhD, which demands more extensive coursework and deeper research involvement. To align with its research-focused approach, the MS program mandates the development and defense of a thesis grounded in scientific hypotheses. Most students complete the degree within two years. Environmental Health involves safeguarding human health by (1) detecting and assessing hazardous substances and (2) controlling exposure to harmful physical, chemical, and biological agents present in air, water, soil, food, and other environmental factors that may threaten wellbeing.
