The Department of Art runs one of the most extensive studio glass programs in the U.S., providing wide-ranging artistic education with a specialization in glass arts. This program blends scientific and humanities studies to equip students for diverse careers as professionals, pioneers, and influencers in the field. Those selecting the Glass concentration are motivated to tackle visual challenges and pursue artistic excellence using glass as their primary medium. Undergraduate glass students gain hands-on training in various glass techniques and learn to operate glass-shaping tools, progressing toward autonomous creative projects and investigations. Through assigned tasks, students engage in maintaining, fixing, building, and designing glass studio apparatus. Collaborative projects help cultivate teamwork and leadership abilities. Every student assembles a professional portfolio and experiments with exhibition techniques. Opportunities exist to form mentor-like connections with professors, graduates, peers, resident artists, and guest artists through apprenticeship-style arrangements.
