The Spanish and Portuguese Department at Ohio State upholds an esteemed legacy, maintaining its position as one of the nation's top-tier graduate programs. Students can pursue combined MA/PhD tracks in Hispanic Linguistics, Iberian Studies, Latin American Cultural and Literary Studies, and Portuguese-Speaking World Literatures and Cultures. While all candidates enter directly into the PhD program, those without a previous MA in the discipline can obtain one during their doctoral studies. The department encourages interdisciplinary exploration, with faculty and students often engaging in coursework beyond departmental boundaries. Both professors and graduate scholars investigate diverse research topics within these academic areas.
