Our graduate program's core objective is to train students as research economists. While earning their PhDs, our graduate students develop diverse skills that prepare them for careers as university educators and professional economists. An economics doctorate opens doors to rewarding opportunities in academia, industry, and public service. Currently, about 80 students are enrolled in our economics PhD program. Each year, we admit 15-20 exceptional candidates from a global applicant pool of roughly 300 highly qualified individuals. Our department consistently ranks among Ohio State University's top performers in securing university fellowships for incoming graduate students. Nearly all PhD candidates receive financial support through teaching or research assistantships, which include competitive stipends and full tuition coverage. Additionally, we offer funding for conference attendance, dissertation research, and job market preparation for our doctoral candidates.
