The Department of Arts Administration, Education and Policy is dedicated to examining cultural significance in ways that drive societal transformation and serve the public good through artistic and visual cultural endeavors. We excel in: Research, Policy Development, Teaching Excellence, and Leadership. Our curriculum cultivates appreciation for arts and visual culture among all learners through an interdisciplinary, research-driven approach that emphasizes partnerships with local, national, and international communities. We focus on interpreting arts and culture, particularly visual culture, within our diverse, technology-driven global society. Key areas of exploration include: Teaching methodologies and applications, Critical examination of historical and modern artworks, Evaluation of arts and cultural policies in public and educational spheres, and Investigation into the philosophical, historical, and policy frameworks underlying art education, arts management, and cultural policy administration.
Our PhD program enables students to attain advanced scholarly expertise while developing their ability to make meaningful contributions to the discipline. The curriculum includes core foundational courses, specialized coursework, candidacy exams, dissertation research, and a final oral defense. Candidates have five years post-candidacy exam to fulfill all PhD requirements. This 80-semester-hour program allows for the transfer of up to 30 credit hours from a student's master's degree.
A baccalaureate or professional degree (or equivalent foreign credential) from an accredited college or university, earned by the expected date of entry into your graduate program. A minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in all prior undergraduate and graduate work.
