Food business managers oversee global food production networks. As the largest sector of the economy, the food industry highly values professionals with expertise in both food science and business operations. Students must complete an internship to acquire real-world experience in the field. Many advanced students secure part-time or summer positions within the industry while earning academic credit. Through the Food Science Club and departmental resources, students receive ample support in securing suitable internships. The food business management program's well-rounded coursework and focus on analytical thinking prepare graduates for diverse careers across the food sector, government agencies, and consulting firms. Alumni frequently secure international positions with restaurant groups and various food/beverage corporations. Our graduates commonly obtain roles including food safety microbiology director, logistics and process control manager, R&D director, food processing engineer, food technology specialist, product development lead, research scientist, and quality assurance supervisor.
Applicant must have successful completion of university preparatory courses, high school performance (class rank or GPA), including participation in accelerated programs like Honors, AP and IB; Ohio State does not have minimum requirements for class rank or GPA, Ability and desire to contribute to and engage with a diverse campus community, Experiences that demonstrate leadership or engaged involvement, Status as a first-generation university student, Demonstration of outstanding talent in a particular area and High school performance if adversely affected by physical, mental or learning environment factors. English proficiency level TOEFL: 79 or higher on the internet-based test, 550 or higher on the paper-based test and IELTS: 6.5 or higher
