The Adult/Gerontological Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) track in the Master of Science in Nursing program equips advanced practice nurses with specialized skills for treating acute and critically ill patients across the adult lifespan, from young adults to the elderly.
This program trains graduates to implement nursing theories, advanced practice principles, and research methodologies when caring for acute/critical care patients. The curriculum integrates knowledge from nursing, biological sciences, and social sciences to inform advanced practice. Students learn to apply nursing theory, advanced practice principles, and evidence-based approaches when designing and providing acute care services. The program combines academic coursework with 700 hours of supervised clinical experience in acute care environments. After completing the program, graduates qualify to take certification examinations offered by either the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).
