The Bachelor of Science in statistics emphasizes both theoretical foundations and practical applications, standing out as one of the nation's few undergraduate statistics programs. Alongside comprehensive statistics coursework, students gain expertise in computer science, professional ethics for statistical decision-making, and advanced writing skills. The program mandates focused study (16 credits) in an application area like computer science, engineering, natural sciences, economics, psychology, or another student-selected discipline. For mathematics, we provide a foundational Bachelor of Arts degree and a more intensive Bachelor of Science option. (These degree titles, with centuries-old origins, carry no standardized definition across institutions - some use them to indicate language requirements, for instance. Our department reserves the B.S. designation for an enhanced curriculum requiring two extra mathematical sciences courses, an additional computer science course, and deeper exploration of a mathematics application field.) Additionally, we offer a Bachelor of Science in actuarial science through collaboration with the School of Business Administration.
