The MSIT program is located in Northwestern University's McCormick School of Engineering, specifically within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. The engineering school holds the 19th national ranking, while its Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering graduate programs are positioned at 32nd and 23rd nationally. Faculty for the MSIT program are drawn from these prestigious departments as well as other top-ranked Northwestern programs.
Following a cohort-based approach, the Master of Science in Information Technology program guides students through the curriculum together as a unified group. The coursework encompasses both technical aspects like computer systems and networking, alongside essential business components including finance, marketing, and project leadership. This dual focus equips graduates with a strategic advantage, enabling them to drive organizational change through their specialized knowledge of how IT solutions impact business operations.
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or electrical engineering (technical degree equivalents considered). Applicants should also have the prerequisite knowledge in programming and higher-level math needed to succeed in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) courses and courses in other McCormick School of Engineering departments.
GRE or GMAT: All full-time MSIT students are required to show proof of sufficient math aptitude exhibited by official GRE or GMAT scores, academic background, and work history.
The MSIT program requires international students to have a minimum TOEFL score of 90 or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5.
